2019 CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Simrin Carlsen was pretty much able to do whatever she wanted this season. She was unstoppable for the vast majority of the season and J.P. Stevens benefitted all the way to a second-straight conference title and run to the Group 4 quarterfinals. Carlsen set a new career-high with 402 kills, 128 more than her previous high, averaging 14.36 per game. She finished the season with double-digit kills in 26 of the 28 games she played in. Carlsen was impactful defensively as well with 253 digs and she earned them all. With one more year to go, there’s plenty of reason to believe 500 kills in a season and 1,000 for her career are within reach.
2019 VOLLEYBALL ATHLETE OF THE YEAR: Simrin Carlsen, J.P. Stevens
The junior outside hitter is a dangerous, all-around player who can take over a game by hitting it hard, tipping in a soft shot or making a great defensive play. She finished with 402 kills, which was the sixth-most in the state according to NJ.com. She added 253 digs, 126 service points, 35 aces, 23 blocks and 19 assists as the Hawks captured their second straight GMCT title.
Additionally, they were ranked as high as No. 5 in the state and reached the Group IV quarterfinals for the second consecutive year.
